One of the most fun things you can do when planning a vacation is to check out area festivals and happenings, and to plan your vacation around those things. If you’re planning a summer or fall vacation to Lynn, Massachusetts, you’re in luck. There are a couple of annual festivals that represent major happenings in the community. One is the Lynn Fine Arts Festival and the other is the Greek Festival.
The Lynn Festival of the Arts actually takes place at nearby Marblehead, but many of Lynn’s visitors and residents drive on over for the great happenings. The festival features activities for the whole family. Of course, at its center are the art displays, booths, and galleries, which are normally open for guests to make purchases. What a great souvenir a handmade work of art from the local festival would be! The festival week also features areas for writers, a rowing regatta, and activities for kids.
This festival normally takes place around the first week of July, and it is scheduled for July 1-5 in 2010. This festival would be great to hit up on a family vacation, since besides fine arts, the Festival of the Arts features other events like a sand sculpture competition on the beach, performing arts, and a film festival. For more information about this unique and exciting event, you can visit the official website at www.MarbleHeadFestival.org.
The Greek festival in Lynn is another annual occurrence, and it is hosted by the area’s Greek Orthodox Church, St. George’s. This festival features all aspects of Greek culture, including Greek food, Greek arts, and Greek dancing. It is also fun for the whole family, and it offers activities and things to do for all age groups. This festival normally takes place at the beginning of September, and it lasts Friday through Sunday. It’s a great thing to try to catch when you’re ready for an east coast vacation in the beautiful fall months.
Other Lynn, MA annual events include local sporting events and events from local charities. Also, throughout the summer, Kites over New England, an organization for kite flyers, of course, hosts events around the area. Normally these events are held outside of Lynn, but they are within easy reach for most travelers and vacationers. At these kit flying expeditions, you won’t see just your average diamond kites, but can enjoy the site of hundreds of interesting, unique, and complex kites flying in the sky.
